Why is my RIOT IQ score different from the IQ score I received from another test?

Why is my RIOT IQ score different from the IQ score I received from another test? I took RIOT and got one number, then took a different test and got a score 10 points higher or lower. Are these tests measuring different things, or is one of them wrong? How much variation is normal between different IQ tests?

Score differences between tests are normal and expected. Different tests emphasize different cognitive abilities, use different norming samples, have different measurement error, and vary in quality. A 5-10 point difference is completely within normal variation range.

Several factors explain score differences. Different tests emphasize different cognitive abilities like verbal versus spatial reasoning. Normative samples vary between tests. Every test has measurement error built in. Testing conditions like fatigue, anxiety, and motivation affect performance. Practice effects occur if tests are taken close together. Variation between legitimate tests is expected and doesn’t mean either is wrong. However, if comparing RIOT to a commercial test that inflated your score significantly, that reflects the commercial test’s lack of validity rather than RIOT inaccuracy. Focus on score ranges rather than treating any single number as definitive.
